Janice Vitkovsky is an artist based in Adelaide, Kaurna lands of South Australia. A practice that spans over 25 years, her work seeks to convey the immersive nature to our subjective experiences through glass object.
Combining knowledge in hot glass processes, kiln forming and cold finishing techniques, Janice’s sculpture explores ideas referencing perception and impermanence, drawing links between how we build meaning through construction and reconstruction of thoughts, ideas and experiences.
Janice began her glass studies graduating from the University of South Australia in 1999. She then went on to complete the Associate trainee-ship program at JamFactory’s Glass Studio. Gaining extensive experience in the historic Venetian murrine technique through mentorship with artist Giles Bettison in New York, this glass process provided a vehicle for her fascination with pattern. The murrine technique allows intricate patterns to embed in the surface of the glass, giving the appearance of moire patterns that optically shift, exposing variable viewpoints.
Janice has exhibited in numerous national and international exhibitions and artist residency programs, and her work is held in public and private collections in Australia, Asia, Europe and the USA.
